Progressives flee X for Bluesky, where they can harass others in peace

Bluesky has about 25 million users vs 400 million for Twitter. Personally, if I'm going to harass someone, I like to do it in person...with napalm.

Progressives flee X for Bluesky, where they can harass others in peace

Bluesky has attracted the likes of many progressives, who are leaving Twitter.

In the wake of Donald Trump’s victory last month, much of the Online Left — that is, progressive academics, journalists and influencers — left Elon Musk’s X for the greener pastures of Bluesky.

The New York Times’ Kevin Roose celebrated the fact that the upstart social media site had freed him “from Elon Musk, and his tedious quest to turn X into a right-wing echo chamber.”

Perhaps most preposterously of all, The Atlantic issued the risible warning that “The Right Has a Bluesky Problem.”

But while the Left might extoll Bluesky as a more civilized alternative to X, it turns out that it not only suffers from all of the same maladies, but is emblematic of all of the flaws that set the stage for Trump’s political comeback.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) told The Washington Post, “The usability, community, and relative lack of harassment here allow me to be a lot more candid about my work and talk out events and decisions in real time with actual people.”

It was a typically oblivious proclamation.

Sure, Ocasio-Cortez isn’t being harassed, but that’s because it’s her people doing the harassing.

While Bluesky might be a safe space for the congresswoman and her fellow doctrinaire liberals, it’s a veritable cesspool for dissenters.

Since he joined the site, left-of-center journalist Jesse Singal has been the subject of unthinkable abuse, including smears, death threats, and attempts to disseminate his home address.

His crime? Telling the truth about the science behind gender-transition treatments for kids.

“Jesse singal get f*cked and die stupid kiddy f*cker piece of sh*t trash sub human b*tch. F*ck I hope someone breaks every bone in your body and castrated you penis and balls then beat you to death stupid bt*ch,” weighed in one enlightened user.

“I think if we all tried hard enough we could get Jesse Singal to kill himself, but that’s just me,” chimed in another.

As Singal weathered the storm, bigger accounts piled on and expressed their support for the effort to get the victim, not his tormentors, kicked off the platform.

Kevin Kruse — an accused plagiarist and the least accomplished of the far-left pop historians — said that Bluesky had been “built” by “a wave of trans early adopters.”

“It’s a f*cking insult that the mods here are letting a deliberate troll like Singal set up shop here to bully and harass them,” he added.

“Signed. Now What’s his @ so I can block & report him?” asked singer Lizzo while sharing the petition to get Singal booted.

Singal isn’t the only one to fall victim to one of Bluesky’s blue mobs.

After Politico’s Michael Kruse shared a quote from a colleague’s piece about the liberal exodus from X, he was not only told to “go and f*ck yourself in the ass with a running chainsaw,” but banned by the powers-that-be.

As it turns out, the people who love Bluesky aren’t modeling better behavior or fostering a safer environment than their peers on X.

To the contrary, they’re creating a safe environment only for the vanishingly small proportion of the country that thinks exactly the way they do to browbeat those who don’t.

Incredibly, some progressives’ reaction to Trump’s resounding defeat of them is to retreat even further into their self-radicalizing bubbles.

So it isn’t the Right that has a newfound Bluesky problem, it’s the Left that has a long-running one with intolerance.

If Bluesky’s popularity is any indication, that ailment shows no signs of abating.
